their way through a hard and pain staking Auckland Final facing people twice
their size in the Open Weight section.
The team did not succeed very well but their coach, Mr Marwick, cheered
them on and gave them confidence. They
may have ended up coming sixth, but they did a great job to get into the finals
after winning the North Harbour Schools Championships. Thanks to Mr Marwick and Mr Rogers” Callan Thomas and Paul McEvoy were selected

5. ROAD PATROLS: -
Due to new work commitments, we require parents to supervise on Tuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 3.00 – 3.20pm and Thursday morning from
8.15 to 8.50am. The Year 6 students in
the main are providing a very good service in helping to ensure students cross
Tonkin Drive in safety, but without parent supervision, the Year 6 students
cannot operate. Anyone who can help
please contact Jackie McClelland on 443-3667 or the school office on 410-6534. Thank you.
6. CAR PARKING: Since the holidays, Yellow Dotted Lines have
been painted on the south side of the carpark.
Please DO NOT PARK or STOP ON THESE LINES as the No Parking
24 Hours a day applies just the same on these lines as at the lines at the
school entrance. We ask for your
cooperation in this matter.
7. PARENT-TEACHER ASSOCIATION UPDATE: The Walkathon from Term 3
resulted in just over $5,700 being donated, which is a terrific response. Thank you to all students and parents who
assisted in this promotion. The Calendar sales likewise, have been very
profitable, just on $1,500 being raised.
There will be a further opportunity to purchase extra copies of the
calendar at the end of the month a separate notice will be issued. Last week, all students were issued with a
notice about the Christmas Shopping Night on 19 November. The PTA have worked incredibly hard to
organise this night and to ensure success, we need parent volunteer help for
some of the stalls. If you can help in
any way, even for half an hour, PLEASE fill in the helper TEAR OFF SLIP from the PTA
Newsletter and return to school before FRIDAY
15 OCTOBER. Thank you for your assistance in this way.
8. SCHOOL NEWSPAPER COMPETITION: Last term, twelve students from
year 5 & 6 with assistance from Mr Bob Irvine, produced an eight page
booklet ‘Senior Sun’ which was submitted in to a competition for many schools
all over the country. The entry was
placed in the Highly Commended section which is a top result. Congratulations to the writers. “The School
Newspaper – by Emily Lay” “I was very
surprised when in the middle of N.I.E. (Newspapers in Education), Mrs Irvine
just simply said “Next week I will select two children who will work with Bob
to make a school newspaper”. I secretly
wished to be able to help make a school newspaper. The following week, as Mrs Irvine had said, she chose the two
children, and I was very lucky to be one of them. During N.I.E. time, Brendan and I would go to the Resource Room
and there meet up with two students from every Year 5 and 6 class. Our group was Erin Murphy, Brendan Steen,
Jack Marsen, Ruth Ironside, Kelly Elliment, Emma Keen, Rhys Richards, Michelle
Papenfus, Michael Williams, Hayley Jones, Lauren Walles, Brendan Ralph and
Emily Lay. We had just one week to
type, edit, arrange, make decisions and photocopy. We managed to finish it in time and so we had a party, just to
celebrate. On Monday, Bob wanted to see
us (the Senior Sun people) and we each got a chocolate fish and a copy of the
Senior Sun. Just recently, our teacher
told us that the newspaper was one of eleven schools nation-wide to receive a
Highly Commended certificate.
9. LUNCHROOM UPDATE: The menu for Term 4 has been distributed to
all families. The convenors at this
stage have been unable to get helpers on Mondays and Thursdays and unless
offers of assistance occur, the lunchroom will be closed on those days. Anyone who can help, ring Brenda on
480-8882. All helpers should have
received a roster. Ring Brenda if you
have not received yours yet.
10. TELECOM SCHOOL CONNECTION: Currently we have 497 families
on the scheme and this results in about $6000 a year for fundraising. We would like to increase our membership, so
if any families who use Telecom, are not on the scheme, please contact the
office for the correct form to fill in.
There is no additional charge to any family supporting the scheme.
