1. STAFFING: While Mr Rogers is on sick leave, I am
acting as Principal and Mr Rhodes is relieving in Room 6. Mr Marwick has been appointed to a permanent
position in the school. Mr Ian Mattison
will join the staff for Terms 1 and 2 in 2000.
We are sad to announce the resignation of Mrs Yvonne Hook as she has won a position at Pinehill School. Yvonne has contributed a lot to our school and will be greatly missed.
2. ATHLETICS SPORTS: On Wednesday 3 November, we held our
Athletics Sports. These were highly
successful, children participating in sprints, high jump, long jump and throw
activities. The inter-class relays were
keenly contested. Special thanks to Mrs
McDonald for her organisation. The
Inter-School Athletics team has been selected and will be training for their sports
day on 17 November.
3. THE CHOIR: The school choir participated in the Primary
Principals Association Choir Festival on 2 November. Thanks to Mrs Palmer for her work as Choir Trainer.
4. WAIRAU ART FESTIVAL: This was held at Wairau
Intermediate School hall last week and featured some excellent art from our
children. Thanks to Ms Lindsay our Art
Co-ordinator.
5. CHRISTMAS SHOPPING NIGHT: The PTA are working extremely
hard to make this a magnificent occasion on FRIDAY 19 NOVEMBER from 5.00 to 8.00pm. They still do need extra
helpers, so if you are able to assist, please contact Vicki Tattley on 478-4354. Thank you to all people who have donated
Scratch Tickets or money for the Christmas Tree Raffle.
6. WAIRAU INTERMEDIATE UNIFORM SALE: The uniform shop will be open
for the sale of new uniforms on Wednesday
24 November until 7.00pm to assist families where parents are working. Alternatively, uniforms can be purchased
between 8.30am and 4.00pm Monday to Friday until end of term and from 19 January
2000. The second hand uniform sale will
be held on Friday 21 January from
10.00am.
7. KIDS CAMP 2000 – A
Kids Camp at Parklands Christian Camp, Snells Beach, will be held from 2nd
to 8th January for 7 to 10 year olds. Cost $13.00 per child.

8. CANS FILM FESTIVAL –
In conjunction with the Salvation Army, Hoyts Cinema are holding a Cans Film
Festival on Monday 29 November from
6.00pm. The Films being shown are
‘Wild Wild West’, The Mummy, Bid Daddy, and The King and I’. Tickets are obtainable upon presentation of
a can of food anytime from Saturday 20 November onwards.
9. INFECTIOUS DISEASES: In line with Ministry requirements, we have an Infectious Diseases
Policy. A reminder that children with
infectious diseases such as chicken pox, measles and whooping cough, should be
kept at home until no longer contagious.
A full copy of the policy can be viewed at the school office. Due to a sibling’s allergic reaction to immunisation,
if any child contracts Whooping Cough, please contact Mrs Tattley on
478-4354.
10. TUMBLING / GYMNASTICS for 5 – 8 year olds. There are
a few vacancies in these classes held in the school hall on Thursdays from 3.15
to 4.15pm. For further information
phone Katya on 443-3050.
11. LOTTO TAKE THE PLUNGE – An introduction to learn to swim lessons for beginners, children aged
at least 5 years and adults from Monday 10 January through to Friday 21
January. Enrolments close 30 November. Forms are available from the school office.

OUR SCHOOL JOINS THE ONLINE COMMUNITY Sunnynook Primary School is moving forward
with the computing track as planned.
Working in line with the government initiatives for Information &
Communications Technology (ICT), the school is now poised to move into the
new Millennium with the Internet Technology.
The official School Web Site is now operational with information about
the school for potential students.
You can browse the site using the Internet site address: http://start.at/sunnynook In addition to handing out these
newsletters to students, we would also like to start delivering these
newsletters to Internet ready members of the school community, via
email. To ensure that we have the
correct email address, interested parents should send an email to the school
email address: [email protected] in order to subscribe to receive the newsletters
electronically. Current & archive
Newsletters are currently available online at our site. Our web site will be dynamic in its content, and will be updated regularly with the school activities & events. We appreciate your feedback on the site, so please email us with your comments. |
13. SUNNYNOOK ROAD CROSSING: We urgently require a parent to
supervise this crossing on Thursday afternoons after school from 3.00 to 3.20pm
commencing Thursday 18 November. It is vital that this crossing is supervised
at all times as it is such a busy road for children to cross. Please contact Mrs Broadley at the school
office on 410-6534 if you can assist us in this matter.
14. HELPERS AFTERNOON TEA will be held on 24 November. Invitations will be going home to all those
people who have assisted in the school during the year. If you have assisted in any way and do not
receive an invitation, please contact Mrs Bindoff on 410-6534.
